Current ifi brochure shows application potentials of virtual and augmented reality in community health care - 12/06/2022

The results publication from the Next Level Sports project uses the software concepts developed in the research project to show how the use of immersive, digital technologies can contribute to a more active and healthier lifestyle.

Thanks to their social integrative power and their positive effect on health and well-being, sport and physical activity are important fields of action in the provision of public services at the local level. Yet the willingness to exercise sufficiently has been declining dramatically in Germany in recent years. For the promotion of sports by cities and municipalities, this means taking a proactive approach to new developments and also tapping into the opportunities offered by digitization in order to ultimately be able to initiate a trend reversal against the lack of physical activity.

The Next Level Sports research project identified a wide range of approaches for using immersive XR technologies (virtual and augmented reality) to stimulate sport activities, promote preventive health care and thus increase activity and well-being. The concepts developed are presented in the brochure in the form of a profile and allow for a more in-depth discussion of the possible applications of XR physical activity offerings in a community context.

The software components developed in the project are available as open source resources via GitHub and can be accessed via QR codes in the brochure.

The brochure can be downloaded here.
